TSM Course Of The Month

Hawks Landing Golf Club, Orlando, FL

2006

The TSM Crew of Cristen Child, Nick Nawrocki, Rich Gonzalez, and Joe Tedesco were invited to play the beautiful Hawk’s Landing Golf Club in Orlando, Sunday, January 8, 2005.  The sun was shining and there were no clouds in the sky, so the conditions were perfect for our test round.

We decided to play the green tees, which are 6,390 yards.  Hawk’s Landing has 3 other sets of tees to chose from besides the green, the black, 6,810 yards, the gold, 5,823 yards, and the silver, 4,890 yards.

Hawk’s Landing is an original Joe Lee design in 1986, but that design was renovated in 1999 by Robert E. Cupp.  This 18 hole championship gem of a course is wrapped around the Orlando World Center Marriott, but don’t let the proximity of this wonderful hotel fool you.  The course is magnificent, and contains a multitude of wildlife and foliage.

We started our round on the 395 yard par 4, Number 1 hole, dogleg right,, with bunkers sprinkling the right side of the fairway, and 3 more bunkers surrounding the green.  We all got off the tee in good shape, though none of us was fortunate enough to get a birdie.  The fairways and greens are manicured to perfection throughout the course, so you do not have any excuses to fall back on.

#9 Par 4

The course is generously marked with 100/150/200 yard markers for the golfers convenience, plus many of the sprinkler heads also contain yardage markers.

One of my favorite holes is the Number 4, par 5, 507 yard, serpentined shaped layout, that has water down the right side, then it works its way toward the middle of the fairway, short of the green, then wraps itself to line the left side of the green.  This is a truly fun, and challenging hole to play.  It is the course’s Number 2 Handicap hole.

                                         #4, Par 5

#10, Par 5

#11, Par 4

The best way to find out about the rest of this naturistic course is to play it yourself.  The staff at Hawk’s Landing will go out of their way to make your round fun and enjoyable.  Hawk’s Landing is another one of the fine Central Florida Golf Courses that you must play when visiting this area.
